Memorial Day 2009

We had a great weekend at the beach once again! My Dad flew home from Portugal on Thursday morning and he and my Mom left for the beach that night with the Cohens. Michael, Bode and I followed Friday after work and we got there pretty late (traffic is always horrible this weekend). We could not believe the crowds this year- Memorial weekend and Labor Day weekend is always crazy busy at the beach, but everyone was talking about how they have never seen it this busy! The lines getting into the bars were blocks long and it took us forever to get served!!!

Saturday morning, Michael woke up early to go fishing. I waited for Bode to get up and get him breakfast and then went out for a long run. It was so nice to be running on flat ground!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bode hanging out with Gampa Saturday morning

Playing naptime with Charlie

Curiously watching baby Aaron

When Michael got home from fishing we headed to the beach!

Bode LOOOOVED it! He of course, was obsessed with the ocean- our little nalu!!! The water was about 55 degrees and hurt my feet when i put them in..... he tried running into the water on several occasions, not being phased by the temperature!

Stud muffin

Action shot of him falling haha
He had a hard time getting the balance sometimes in the sand

Much to my surprise, he didn't seem to mind the sand!

He did steal a kid's ball- but they ended up playing with it together

Around lunchtime, Michael took Bode home for lunch and a nap while I got some sun/sleep time! The weather was partly cloudy, but when the sun was out, it was hot!!

Just as I was falling asleep and relaxing, i heard screams and yelling..... they were dredging sand from offshore and putting it back on the beach because if you aren't aware, the Delaware beaches are very narrow! They tried this 3 years ago and one of the hurricane's wiped the beach away again. Someone had HORRIBLE planning because they weren't quite done in Dewey, so it was an eyesore on the beach..... but anyway, one of the pipe's burst and water/sand from offshore came spitting out all over!

So while trying to relax, they sent 3 bulldozers over to fix the pipe and push the sand mounds up again- nothing like a relaxing day on the beach! Bode and Charlie loved watching the bulldozers though!

When the boys came back down, the clouds were covering the sky and it was cold!!!

Ready to dig

Chillin!

Hey Dude

Begging for a snack as usual

Aunt Sara singing to a very tired beach baby

Sara and Aaron

Dinner at Dos Locos. Unfortunately, my Dad had to fly out again- this time to Seattle, so we were sad to see him leave again!

Charlie's face is priceless because Aaron was fussy most of dinner
Yummy dinner

Playing with a ball, one of his favorite things to do

Trolley ride home

Monday morning my Mom, Sister, and I ran in the Rusty Rudder 5k down at the beach. The weather was perfect and I was excited to race... especially on flat ground! I haven't raced since right after having Bode, but before that it had been years. Racing is addicting and i'm definitely doing more this summer!
The race was awesome and I finished in 24 minutes 30 seconds!!!! My best time and I came in 2nd for my age group (25-29)..... i was very excited. Overall I was something like 160 out of 541, but it sounds better when you say i was 2nd in my age group hahaha

Cousins!!!

After getting home on Monday and quickly running to the grocery store for things we just need for the week (we go on vacation to the beach again next week), we went to the Hoffmaster's house for a Memorial Day BBQ

Makayla and Mason were practicing swim things in the hot tub and Aunt Jamie was nice enough to let Bode dip his piggies

We had a great time at the beach, but Monday was a weird day- On the way home from the beach, my Mom called to tell me that their next door neighbors (Clarence & Sheila), some great friends of my parents', had horribly bad news. Clarence was having a hard time breathing on Monday morning so they called the ambulance.... by the time Clarence got to the hospital, he had passed away :( He was just getting ready to retire this year and had lots of life left to live...... this is just absolutely shocking, horrible news and my heart goes out to Sheila and the whole Hill family. Additionally, Monday night I found out that Sara had Aaron in the hospital and they admitted him last night :( He is having some major breathing/heart issues and for some reason, his liver is enlarged. They are still doing lots of testing on him, but again, to see a tiny thing like that go through testing and being poked with needles just kills me. I can't imagine how my sister is managing, but she continues to amaze me! Please keep their family in your thoughts

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Michael and I leave for the beach on Friday with Bode and we cannot wait to have a whole week there!!!!!!!!!!!!! First, we have to get through our crazy week...........
