Work in Progress

Ok so I apologize for being shady about the house, but..... up until 10am this morning, Michael and I were technically homeless..... Yes that's right we had drama of course on Friday!

We had a few hiccups along the way on Friday. The buyers of our old house worked with a bank who hadn't transfered the settlement money to the title company in time... so we were not able to leave that settlement with a check that we needed for our new house! On the way back to our realtor's office, however, the transfer came in and we were all set to buy the new house...................
or so we thought! The bank had all of the paperwork signed weeks in advance so our Realtor thought it would just go smoothly with Michael and I signing papers.... until we realized that the one sheet we needed from the bank was not signed in our stack of papers.... the HUD document that hands over ownership of the house! So our Realtor took us to lunch and we had some drinks, thinking it would come in later that afternoon.... but it didn't. Apparently it's very typical of this bank.... after all, it took them almost 3 weeks to accept our offer! The Realtor told us that there really isn't any way this could fall through, everything else was signed- so we decided to chance it and work on the house anyway. I think it was kinda illegal in a way, so I didn't want to go posting it to everyone haha! But now the paperwork just came in this morning- now that we are almost done with the downstairs! So it's official..... WE OWN THE HOUSE NOW!!!!!!!!

We ripped out carpeting and flooring Friday night into Saturday. We had a few surprises underneath some of the flooring- they had concreted this type of drywall material and it was a mess to get out. Michael and Scott had to basically chisel it away- what a pain!!!

Here is Michael right when you walk in our front door

Here is our living room- this is all of the tile and sub-flooring that needed to be ripped up! What a project

HAHA Here is me trying my hardest to help chisel out the old flooring with a digging iron- which alone weighs about 20 lbs.! haha i wasn't much help- and No, it wasn't snowing in our kitchen.... it was horribly dusty!

Ahhh the dreaded basement! We ripped out the nasty carpet only to find that the previous owner had glued carpet tiles to the cement floor.... another hurdle! I think we decided to tile the entire basement area- we will just put a rug down where our other set of couches and entertainment center will be.
The tile will be easy to clean with the bar area and being in the basement it won't expand if it gets damp
Our garage- filled with old flooring and carpet! What a mess!

We got our bedrooms measured and our carpet should be installed after labor day- so Michael and I are working on our master bedroom tonight, but everything else is painted and almost done. I think we are starting to install the hardwood Wednesday night!!!!!!!! I will post pictures of the completed paint jobs once the flooring is in- it looks so much better!
